I'am John Smith and i want to utter something about the subject mentioned in the title..:)
"The best things in life are free," so sang the Beatles, "but you can give them to the birds and the bees." And then that all-too familiar chorus that practically everyone in the world, if they were honest, would admit to singing: "Just give me money, that's what I want."
There is no doubt that money is important. Ever since man first used shells as a unit of exchange more than 5,000 years ago, money has played a vital part in our lives both individually and as a society. It has not always been smooth sailing, however: while many cultures thrived under an economic structure that favored currencies over the barter trade, money has undoubtedly caused huge trouble throughout history.
Countless wars have been waged over it, and many kingdoms have fallen due to the covetousness of their citizens, whose lust for more and more money proved to be their downfall. And who can forget Judas, who betrayed Jesus for a mere 30 pieces of silver?
Contrary to what many people believe, however, the Bible does not say money itself is evil. What the apostle Paul actually says in 1 Timothy 6:10 is this: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." It is not money itself that is evil but one's love -- or lust -- for it. Indeed, money is necessary for the world to operate, and even the most holy of persons needs it to live. Used properly, money is a great tool for good.
Consider someone like Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world, who has now decided to give most of his money to worthy causes. Having built an empire out of Microsoft and amassing a fortune of about $60 billion, he has chosen to dedicate his money to bring innovations in health, development, and learning throughout the world. And he is just one among a growing number of billionaires who have come to realize that they were blessed with wealth not so they can keep it, but so they can help others who are in need.
But it doesn't take a billionaire to help change the world for the better. Indeed, it is said that the vast majority of money being channeled to various charities comes not from the few rich but from the majority who are of modest means, those who sacrificially give their money even though it causes inconvenience to them and to the lifestyle to which they are accustomed. This is hopeful proof that humanity is turning a page and is deciding that amassing money is not the end-all, be-all of life. Money is important, but it is not everything.
