AT&T: If you're interested in online careers with a multinational, wide-ranging telecommunications company, you might want to consider AT&T. Like IBM, AT&T is a Fortune 500 company that's traded publicly on the New York Stock Exchange. Based in Dallas, Texas, the current company was launched in 1983, after the original AT&T was broken up, in the aftermath of antitrust litigation.
In addition to offering online careers, AT&T is known for supporting lifestyle balance that a work at home mom needs. Although there were 12,000 AT&T telecommuting positions, at last count, the company does not identify them as such, in its career database.
AT&T's website states that the company has a "comprehensive telecommuting program" and makes remote arrangements for its employees when appropriate. It goes on to say that AT&T "has provided mobile and remote access technologies to more than 130,000 employees," enabling them to telecommute from almost anywhere, including their own residence. While AT&T doesn't actively promote online careers, it's possible to telecommute, if you choose the right position.
AT&T is one of the best choices a work at home mom could make. A legitimate work from home job provider, the company is rock-solid, and offers good benefits. Before you interview, ask whether the position that interests you is suitable for AT&T's telecommuting program.
Telecommuting will let you be the work at home mom you want to be. As long as you're dealing with the company directly, there's no need to be concerned about scams, or if you're getting a legitimate work from home job with AT&T or IBM - they're both reputable, Fortune 500 companies. They both offer great virtual career opportunities, although you'll need to investigate the details a little deeper, and do some extra research before you find the right position. There's no doubt that the extra effort will be worth it.
